Robert Akoto Amoafo is a Human Rights advocate, communications expert, personal and organizational development coach and an International Finance Corporation (IFC) certified trainer. His expertise is in Executive Leadership, Governance and Change Management. He also specializes in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Mr. Amoafo has supported over twenty organizations to build their boards and helped strengthen organizational systems and structures. Organizations he has worked with include Amnesty International Ghana, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative-Africa Regional Office, Solace Initiative, Hope Alliance Foundation, Centre for Popular Education and Human Rights Ghana. He develops coaching and mentoring programmes to support organizational leaders to achieve organizational goals while taking care of themselves and their teams.
Robert was the Country Director of Amnesty International Ghana from 2018 to 2021. While at Amnesty, a membership-based organization, Mr. Amoafo led the transformation of the governance system by improving on their Annual General Assembly Meetings are held, how elections are held to select board members and training and support for new board members to be effective while they are on the board. He developed and implemented various policies to strengthen the governance and leadership systems in the organization and provided support to the Board Chair.
He also worked as a Communications Advisor to the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (of the Republic of Ghana) in 2016. He served as the Technical Advisor on the HIV Continuum of Care Project at FHI 360, where he worked to increase HIV treatment among key populations in Ghana on the USAID LINKAGES Project.
He currently serves as the President of the Alliance for Equality and Diversity (AfED)-a coalition of LGBTI organizations, individuals and allies, Board Chair of three organizations; Solace Initiative, Hope Alliance Foundation and OHF Initiative in Ghana. Robert is a member of the International Advisory Committee of the Power of PRIDE Project run by COC Netherlands, Pan-African ILGA and ILGA Asia.
